Our Little Piece of Paradise in Taillecavat!

Duras Chateau

Welcome to Chez Emmot...

Chez Emmot is perfectly located...emersed in the beautiful French countryside with ample privacy supplied by the surrounding fields, orchards and vineyards. A 10 minute walk away is the small village of Taillecavat which has a local bakery for your morning pastries and baguettes. The house is also situated midway between the bastide towns of Monsegur and Duras (each approx 5km away) where there is an array of shops, newsagents, bakeries, bars, restaurants, banks and not forgetting Duras Chateau (pictured bottom left).

The house is fully equipped and sleeps 6-8. Two double bedrooms, a twin and a double futon in the basement room. There is also 2 travel cots available.

Bought in 2006, the house is owned, nurtured and loved by the Roberts and Jennings Families. Sharing a common interest in gardening and allotments,  we try to maintain a stocked potager and thriving orchard - which guests are able to raid as the fruit and vegetables ripen. Depending on the time of year you visit you might find Apricots, Plums, Apples, Pears, Cherries, Persimmons, Greengages, Nectarines, Figs, Crab Apples, Raspberries, Strawberries, Tomatoes plus whatever season vegetables we have planted such as Aubergines, Courgettes, Peppers, Chard, Lettuces. The garden is truly the heart of Chez Emmot and the perfect place to relax and unwind or, if you prefer, kick a football, splash in the paddling pool or take the bikes for a ride out.

Each season still brings us new discoveries of flowers, animals or insects which reside within our boundaries. The lizards are always around to welcome you in and if your lucky you may get a visit from our resident green lizard who at a foot long with a bright blue throat is a great holiday spot. Or perhaps our baby hedgehog will pop his head out from the bushes at the back of the house to say 'hello'. If you are truly blessed (and an early riser) you might catch one of the wild deer in the garden minding its own business.

Please drop us a note if you would like to stay!

How to get there...

The house is only 45 minutes from Bergerac airport, served by Ryanair (from Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands) and FlyBe (from Leeds/Bradford , Manchester and others).  Alternatively, there are BMI Baby flights into Bordeaux from Manchester, also Easyjet flights there from Luton and Bristol. A new route from City Airport, London is also starting this Summer. Bordeaux is just over an hour away, via the autoroute.  Many guests take the train via the Eurostar and TGV (change at Lille) to Bordeaux.  Driving from the channel ports takes about nine hours of motorway driving, the larger part along the very relaxing Autoroute de l’Aquitaine.
